Exploring the Future of Broadcast Applications with ROE Visual
Leek, the Netherlands (23 November 2021) – PLAZAMEDIA and ARRI engage in a unique pilot project in Germany. Working on innovative and diverse mixed reality applications in a state-of-the-art studio at PLAZAMEDIA’s headquarters in Ismaning near Munich, both companies aim to optimize complex mixed reality technology practically for TV productions. ROE Visual LED screens and GhostFrame technology were part of the pilot project. The setup has generated serious interest from the numerous clients visiting.

As part of the partnership with ARRI, ROE Visual LED panels were deployed for the "LED Volume Studio" in Studio 6 at PLAZAMEDIA in Ismaning. The pilot project intends to set new standards for virtual applications. ARRI and PLAZAMEDIA bring in their respective experience and knowledge in the field of high-end film productions, the design and engineering of mixed reality and TV studios, as well as broadcast services. Both companies aim to adapt and optimize the complex mixed reality technology, which is becoming increasingly important in the film industry, in a way that is practical for TV productions.
The mixed reality installation at PLAZAMEDIA, which initially runs until the end of November 2021, offers a state-of-the-art environment in an area of 360 sqm and a height of seven meters. Integrated is a 120 sqm ROE Visual Diamond DM2.6 LED wall with a length of 23 meters and a height of five meters, driven by HELIOS LED processing. In addition, the studio is equipped with Mo-Sys Star Tracker System and Trackmen tracking system, has embedded the GhostFrame technology as an optional tool, and as a graphic engine with the Unreal Engine 4.27 developed by Epic Games.
The lighting concept includes ARRI SkyPanel S60, ARRI Orbiter, ARRI L5, and grandMA Lighting and enables automated, scene-specific lighting control as a special feature. The camera setup consists of an ARRI ALEXA Mini LF kit with an ARRI Signature Zoom lens, an ARRI AMIRA, and Sony HDC-3500 cameras.

From broadcasts to commercials to digital events, a fully equipped mixed reality studio environment offers a wide range of possibilities for customers from different sectors. Mixed reality is ideal for media companies, the advertising industry, and the event and culture sector, which can realize their productions and events in a state-of-the-art environment. Both live and non-live formats can be realized in the broadcast area, such as talk shows, news programs, games, and quiz shows.
